/ 01 · Who this is for

When tests reveal a hardware question.

Generator Condition is the specialty capability that sits behind the flagship testing services. It is rarely the reason a client calls — it is what happens when grid code testing reveals an AVR response anomaly, when a performance test exposes an output discrepancy that does not reconcile to fuel input, or when a fault event demands forensic depth before the asset can return to service.

We are OEM-independent by design. We do not sell equipment. We do not represent a manufacturer. That independence is the entire point of bringing us in when the OEM has commercial conflict.

/ A

IPPs & Developers

Post-fault diagnostics. Pre-acquisition condition assessments. Independent witness when the OEM and the operator disagree on root cause.

/ B

Utilities

Fleet condition assessment programs. End-of-life decisions. Refurbishment vs replacement scoping. Outage-window diagnostic campaigns.

/ C

EPC Contractors

Owner handover validation when commissioning tests raise hardware questions. Pre-acceptance forensic depth that protects the EPC schedule.

/ D

OEMs

Independent third-party forensic assessment when warranty is in dispute. The OEM cannot self-witness their own equipment without commercial conflict.

/ E

Lenders & DFIs

Asset condition assessment for refinancing. Bankability post-incident. Independent diagnostic depth when the project value depends on what's actually inside the generator.

/ 02 · Six diagnostic disciplines

Six tests. One disciplined diagnostic report.

Generator condition assessment is a multi-discipline exercise. Most engagements combine three or four tests scoped to the specific symptom — a stator winding question gets EL-CID plus partial discharge; a rotor symptom gets flux probe plus thermography; a vibration anomaly gets bearing analysis plus rotor balance verification.

Each diagnostic is run against the relevant IEEE or IEC standard. The deliverable is a single forensic report — findings, severity rating, root-cause analysis where determinable, and repair-or-refurbish recommendations.

/ 01

Stator core diagnostics

EL-CID (Electromagnetic Core Imperfection Detection) testing for core iron damage. Identifies inter-laminar shorts that cause local hot-spots and accelerated insulation aging.

Stator winding diagnostics

Partial discharge (PD) testing for insulation system condition. Tan delta, capacitance, DC and AC HiPot. The full panel of winding insulation assessment.

IEEE 286 · IEEE 1434 · IEC 60270
/ 03

Rotor flux probe testing

Air-gap flux probe analysis to detect shorted turns in the rotor winding. Identifies the most common rotor electrical fault before it triggers vibration or thermal symptoms.

IEEE 67 · IEEE 95 · flux probe analysis

Excitation hardware diagnostics

Brushes, slip rings, rectifiers, exciter machines. The hardware behind the AVR control loop — when AVR tests reveal an anomaly the controller alone does not explain.

Bearing & vibration analysis

Bearing condition assessment, vibration signature analysis, alignment verification. Diagnoses mechanical faults that often masquerade as electrical problems on output instruments.

Auxiliary & cooling diagnostics

Hydrogen seal systems, cooling water and air-gap pressure, lube oil condition. The supporting systems whose degradation shows up first as a primary-system symptom.

/ 03 · How we deliver it

Five phases. Outage-aware at every step.

Forensic generator diagnostics live inside outage windows. The methodology is designed to extract the maximum diagnostic insight from the minimum unit-down time — symptom intake before mobilization, focused diagnostic scope at the outage, severity-rated findings within days, repair-or-refurbish recommendations before the unit returns to service.

This is the methodology that closes a fault investigation cleanly. The forensic report is the document the operator, the OEM, the insurer and the lender all eventually need.

/ 04 · Instrumentation & standards

Specialist instrumentation. OEM-agnostic coverage.

Generator diagnostics require specialist instrumentation that does not appear on a general grid code testing kit. EL-CID analyzers, partial discharge detectors, flux probes, vibration analyzers, infrared thermography cameras, HiPot and megger testers. The instrumentation cost is a barrier to entry that explains why most testing firms do not maintain this capability in-house.

We work on all the major OEM platforms our flagship clients operate — independence by design, not by accident.

  • EL-CID analyzer (core iron diagnostic)
  • Partial discharge detectors (PD)
  • Air-gap flux probes (rotor)

/ 05 · Accreditation & independence

Credentialed for owner, OEM and lender review.

ISO/IEC 17020 accreditation as a Type A inspection body is in progress, expected to complete in 2026. The methodology, the instrumentation and the OEM-independence already meet the technical and structural requirements — accreditation formalizes what is already in place.

OEM-independence is the strategic credential. Generator condition diagnostics are the one service where an OEM cannot honestly self-witness their own equipment without commercial conflict. We are the alternative.

/ 06 · Engagement preview

What a forensic engagement looks like.

Most generator condition engagements share a similar shape: a flagship-service finding triggers the call, an outage window gets defined, a focused diagnostic scope is executed in two-to-seven days on site, and a severity-rated report ships within ten days of return.

Ready to mobilize on five working days' notice when a fault event demands rapid forensic response. The methodology, the instrumentation and the OEM coverage are all on the roster — we activate, we don't ramp up.
